Easy Off Eye Makeup Remover

None of this should come as a surprise to you if you've been reading the posts and comments over the last few entries, but based on someone else's comment and my own research, you can use coconut oil to remove your eye (or any) makeup. Since I only wear mineral makeup on my face, I'm not too concerned about getting that off with the honey facial wash, but I have been using an Estee Lauder eye makeup remover to get my eye makeup off since I don't really want to get honey in my eyes.

The last few nights I've been trying out using coconut oil as a makeup remover and, holy smokes people!, it works super fantastical! Way, waaaaay, better than the commercial product and heaps more natural and inexpensive. I don't have to worry about what's in it and did I say that it's way more effective? I take a little bit and rub it on my eyelid and my body temperature melts it into a liquid (if it's not already) and it's great for taking off mascara and even waterproof MAC kohl eyeliner. And I don't have to rub and scrub to remove it, it's off in seconds.

You just need to be careful not to overdo it otherwise you'll get a little bit in your eye and your vision is a little fuzzy for a spell, but I'd rather have coconut oil in my eye than who knows what is in the commercial products. It doesn't sting or anything, it's just annoying.

If I keep this up, I'll be able to eat my entire beauty routine! I also have some other tips to report with the coconut oil, but I want to make sure I'm not fabricating results I'm having with it since they seem rather incredulous and whatnot, so stay tuned.

What do you use to remove makeup?

Uh, I use some product from Clinque, but I will soon run out and get some coconut oil! Where can I find it?

You can use any oil, really, to remove eye makeup. I use jojoba since it's supposed to be closest in composition to natural skin oil and not clog pores. Just squirt a small amount on a cotton ball and wipe.

I have used coconut oil as a moisturizer. It worked great except for one small problem - I am allergic to it. For about an hour after I apply it, my skin is red and itchy. It clears up (and my skin was definitely moisturized) but I still felt I should try something else.

Weird that I had that effect as I can eat coconut.

I love coconut oil. Die Frau, you can get it at health food stores like Whole Foods, but my favorite source is Mountain Rose Herbs (google them). (You have to buy it by the gallon, though! But I use it for everything, so that's not a problem for me.)

I use grapeseed oil as a makeup remover, and coconut oil as a moisturizer. Now I need to buy some organic cotton flannel, cut it up into squares, and use that so I stop wasting cotton balls!

I use jojoba oil as well, and it works as well as you said the coconut oil did.

Where else can you find Coconut Oil? I don't have a Whole Foods in my area...

Well I have a ton of it left over from my conditioner expriment gone bad so I will try it. Why don't these thoughts ever occur to me?

I may have to try it, thanks!

I used coconut oil for my hair conditioner the other day and despite the fact that I smell like a macaroon, it also left it pretty heavy and greasy. I got the oil from an indian grocery store (it comes in a blue bottle) and I am wondering whether it is a bit old cause it smells a bit stale. Anyway for all of those who use it for moisturizer and makeup remover...arent you bothered by the smell? The first time I used it I bought the expensive kind from whole foods and it worked great (and no smell). Now not so sure.

I use a natural lotion to remove my eye-makeup and it seems to work well, I just use a cotton ball and brush lightly towards my nose till its all off... Maybe a nice natural lotion would be better for people with allergies.

I use jojoba oil as both my moisturizer and eye makeup remover. Works great! I think my skin is similar to her Crunchiness (oily but gradually getting a bit drier as I get further from my teens).

I am just wondering of folks have problem with it being too greasy. I have used oils in the past for eye make-up remover and then follow up with my facial cleanser (I use Kiss my Face). I just found that often the oil left a residue and the next day I would often have issues with "raccoon eyes" b/c of my masacra. Now I just wash my face with the Kiss my Face cleanser and that is all I need.

Interesting! I use extra virgin olive oil since we always have some on hand.

I use coconut oil in place of hair pomade and I love it. My hair, formerly the texture of a brillo pad, is now soft and shiny. I've found that it works best if I work in a small amount while my hair is still a little bit damp. I've also cut way back on how often I wash... maybe every third or fourth day... and that has also helped. Love coconut oil! Good stuff.

I've used olive oil (EVO) for years ~ got a small travel bottle at grocery or drug store.(an extra small one if I'm traveling) I do replace the bottle every year or three and should probably replace every 6 months or more often to avoid contamination. I've never had a problem with it and it seems to last a really long time. I prefer tissues rather than cotton but may try flannel cloths one of these days.

I use apricot oil because I have half a jar left from an attempt at making my own moisturizer! But its pretty rare these days I wear much make up.

This is sort of a late post, but for all of you having problem with greasiness (in the hair and on the face), are you washing it off afterwards? I put coconut oil in my hair before washing; it works great that way. If you use it as an afterwash conditioner, it is much too greasy for normal or oily hair. It's the same for using it on your face too.
